Technical Library: Multi-Page Printing in CorelDRAW

This exercise will walk you through the different steps necessary to create and print a job using multiple pages in CorelDRAW on your Epilog Mini, Helix, or Legend EXT. This exercise will show you a simple way to set up a job that contains both fixed and variable data.

The first part of this exercise will show you how to set up the fixed data and the second part will show how to create multiple pages with variable data.

1)

To start, if your Object Manager docker is not open, go to the menu bar and select Tools.

From the drop-down window, choose Object Manager.

2)

Import your fixed data (logo, graphic, etc.) that you want to show up on each of the items you will be engraving. In this case we are using a BMW logo.

In the Object Manager you can see that the logo shows up as "Group of 3 Objects" under Layer 1.

3)

Next we're going to create a new Master Layer. Any item we place on this layer will show up on all of the different pages we create.

Create a new Master Layer in the Object Manager by clicking on the New Master Layer icon at the bottom of the Object Manager.

Rename the layer to "Fixed Data" by double-clicking on the name of the layer. The Object Manager will add the word "Master" before our Fixed Data label so that we remember that anything that is on this layer will appear on all of the pages we create.

4)

Select the logo in the Object Manager (listed as Group of 3 Objects) and drag it into the Master Fixed Data layer we created.

5)

Now you'll see that the "Group of 3 Objects" logo has been placed on our Master Fixed Data layer and will show up on each page of the file.

6)

Next we're going to add one page to the document per object we need to engrave. Click the small plus symbol next to the Page 1 tab at the bottom of the page to add a new page to the document.

We need a total of five pages for this project, so we continued pushing the plus symbol until five pages were created.

7)

Now we need to add our variable data to the file. This is going to be a different name that will appear on each page of the file.

Go back to Page 1 of your document and add a text box to Layer 1 on page 1. Format the font however you would like it to look on your engraving.

When you have the text box set up how you like it, you can select the text box and copy it over to the other pages. Change the name in each text box to the different names you want on each name plate or badge.

When you have a different text box set up on each page, you're ready to print to the laser.

8)

In the Print window, change the Print Range from Current Document to Pages 1-5, or to any range of the objects you would like print. If you only need to engrave one tag, select that page, or choose any combination of pages.

9)

In the Print Preview you can now look at each page of the file that will be sent to the laser. Select the arrow below the print preview window to see a preview of each page.

10)

When the file is printed to the laser, the first page on the LCD display will be displayed as any standard page would display (the name of the file).

All subsequent pages will display as the page number assigned in Corel. For instance, the next pages of this file show as Page 2, Page 3, etc.

That's all there is to it! You can use this technique to print multiple name plates, badges and many other projects.
