Golden,
CO – September 8, 2003: Epilog
Laser is sad to announce that one of our
distributors, Bob Wakeman, passed away on
Sunday, August 31, 2003. Wakeman has been
fighting cancer for approximately four years.
He first starting working with Epilog as
a representative in the mid 90’s, and
has worked directly with Epilog since early
2002. His company, Brookings Engraving, distributed
Epilog lasers in North and South Dakota as
well as Minnesota. In addition to Epilog
lasers, Brookings Engraving also distributed
Xenetech products, as well as maintaining
a retail store in Brookings, SD. In addition
to Bob’s involvement with Epilog, Xenetech
and his retail business, Bob served on the
ARA Board of Directors and was the ARA President
in 2000-2001.
Wakeman
was diagnosed with the disease shortly
before taking the reins of ARA president
and decided that it would be better to try
and keep this commitment than to give up.
He continued to take on other commitments
during his fight as he felt that the more
he lived, the longer he would live. He did
live longer than most people expected, including
the doctors. His last year and a half was
a bonus to him, his family and his friends.
During this time the doctors continually
told him they weren’t sure what the
next step should be because they didn’t
have any experience with liver cancer patients
that “have lived this long”.
His fight with cancer was courageous and
his optimistic attitude was always an inspiration
to everyone at Epilog, and those around him.
Wakeman’s contribution to the engraving
industry is immeasurable and we will miss
him greatly.
